 TASMANIAN GAS PIPELINE

Tasmanian Gas Pipeline

The Tasmanian Gas Pipeline (TGP) is a 740km transmission pipeline (including 301km of sub-sea pipeline) that transports natural gas from Longford in Victoria to Bell Bay in Tasmania. It consists of a mainline that links Longford in Victoria with Bell Bay, Rosevale and Springfield near Launceston, and Bridgewater near Hobart in Tasmania. There is also a lateral pipeline that connects with the mainline at Rosevale and extends northwest to Devonport, Burnie and Port Latta.

Tasmanian Gas Pipeline (TGP) Pty Ltd is the owner and licensee of the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline. TGP was commissioned in 2002 and supplies gas to a number of industrial customers and towns in Tasmania. Key industrial customers include: Tamar Valley gas fired power station, Rio Tinto Alcan Bell Bay aluminium smelter and Grange Resources’ iron ore processing facility at Port Latta.

The TGP is a non-scheme pipeline under Part 23 of the National Gas Rules.
