Opportunity to be seized

Australia’s gas industry had to prepare for the worst-case scenario in lowering emissions, but there was also opportunity to be seized, APGA CEO Steve Davies told the Australian Domestic Gas Outlook conference this week.
The States and Territories have set ambitious targets to lower emissions by 2030 which was not very far away and the industry has to consider right now how to help meet those targets, he said
Very rapid decarbonisation would be hard to achieve, but the industry was already trialling renewable gases such as hydrogen and biomethane and these represented a great opportunity.
“The opportunity for a lower cost energy transition is built on the foundations laid by the natural gas industry of today,” Steve said.
“By delivering lower cost net-zero gas through lower cost gas infrastructure, Australia’s net-zero gas and electricity industries can work together to deliver the least-cost net-zero energy solution for the nation.”
