No shortage of unused gas pipeline capacity out of Queensland
Reports that there is no pipeline capacity to carry gas out of Queensland to the southern states are incorrect, APGA Chief Executive Officer Steve Davies said today.
The South West Queensland Pipeline, the key link in the east coast network allowing gas from Queensland to be transported south, is today operating at 59 per cent capacity, Mr Davies said.
Information on how much capacity is being used in any east coast gas pipeline is available on the Australian Energy Market Operator’s National Gas Bulletin Board.
“There have been major transparency measures introduced in recent years and the National Gas Bulletin Board provides insight into gas market operations on a daily basis.
“An examination of the Gas Bulletin Board shows that, on almost every day over the past month, the South West Queensland Pipeline has been operating below full capacity.
“Looking further back, it is rare to find a day this year on which the pipeline is operating at full capacity."
