To be good engineers, we need to understand failure. In the evolution of engineering design, engineers must experience failure in order to learn better design.

Join Ted Metcalfe for a presentation on the parallels between two bridge failures (the Quebec Bridge in 1907 and the West Gate Bridge in 1970), and how to recognise those themes in your working lives.

Themes include project governance, external pressures such as schedule and budget, and competencies, professionalism, and teamwork.

You can find related material in Public Safety in the Pipeline Industry: an engineering practice guide which was published earlier this year. Ted Metcalfe was one of the authors.
