APGA's Environment Risk and Compliance Subcommittee has organised two partners from law firm Norton Rose Fulbright to hold a webinar to discuss the major environmental reforms under way in Victoria and the Northern Territory.
The session is designed to update members on the changing environmental regulatory landscape in these jurisdictions, and provide an opportunity to ask questions. The discussion will examine:
Victoria: changes in progress under the Environment Protection Amendment Bill 2018 that will mean a significant overhaul of environmental law and regulation of industry in Victoria. The suite of proposed changes include introduction of a general environmental duty and provisions that will hold industry to a much higher standard for environmental protection.
Northern Territory: update on the NT Water Regulation Reform. The Water Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 (NT) passed the Legislative Assembly in 2018. According to Environment and Natural Resources Minister Eva Lawler, the Bill "will ensure that the requirement for water licensing, and permits to access water resources, will apply to mining and petroleum activities for the first time, meaning they will be regulated in the same way as other water users".
