In this webinar, the final for 2021 of the very popular series from the people at, presenter Colin Gibson Principal Pipeline Engineer at GHD, will cover Appendix N of AS 2885.5:2020 – Safety in pressure testing.

Stored energy levels contained within a pipeline at test pressure are high, by the nature of the testing, in to discover flaws or defects in the pipeline. Maximum throw distances, should the pipe fail under test, are based on fluid escape velocity, rock size and statistical probabilities, rather than total stored energy in the pipeline. The appendix provides a methodology to estimate the maximum possible throw distance of rocks or fragments, including a worked example. These calculations help pressure test designers and practitioners determine exclusion zones for safety during the test period.
