PIPELINE INFORMATION FOR USERS

Pipeline information for users

The Amadeus Gas Pipeline (AGP) is a bi-directional transmission pipeline that extends from the Amadeus Basin in the south of the Northern Territory to Darwin, in the north. It is 1658km in length (including laterals) and transports natural gas to Darwin, Alice Springs and regional centres, principally to fuel power generation.

The AGP is owned and operated by APA Group through its wholly owned subsidiary APT Pipelines NT Pty Ltd. It was commissioned in 1986. When first commissioned, AGP gas flowed only in a single direction − northwards to Darwin from the Palm Valley and Mereenie gas fields in the Amadeus Basin. However, since 2008, natural gas from the Blacktip gas field in the Bonaparte Basin also feeds into the AGP from the Bonaparte Gas Pipeline. This gas flows north to Darwin as well as south towards Alice Springs.

The AGP is subject to full regulation under the National Gas Rules.
