The Northern Territory government has made an excellent policy decision to lift the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, APGA Chief Executive Officer Steve Davies said today.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced his government had accepted all 135 recommendations of the final report of the Independent Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing in the Northern Territory.
“The NT government has undertaken a thorough, independent inquiry and then made a policy decision based on the evidence presented by the inquiry,” Mr Davies said.
“The inquiry found that the deployment of technology, the application of expertise and the presence of effective regulation all contribute to industry’s ability to mitigate or remove any risks associated with unconventional gas development.
“The inquiry was wide-ranging, covering economic, technical, environmental, social and community issues. Its recommendations therefore meet scientific and community expectations.”
